Experienced in all disciplines of furniture and cabinet craftsmanship, serving global clientele, and fortunate to build from Maui, Hawai’i.
I grew up in the shadow of my father’s workbench, as my father did before me. And the practical lessons learned there fueled my dedication to craftsmanship. My professional training includes studies under modern masters of marquetry, inlay, wood turning, hand-finishing, and upholstery such as Paul Schurch, Jerry Kermode, Terri Masachi, and Mitch Kohanek. This lifelong dedication to education has made me part of a dwindling tribe of craftspeople who can take an idea from conception and sketch to handcrafting, color-matching, and finishing.
I have no better inspiration for my craft than looking around my workspace, located on the beautiful North Shore of Maui. My shop is in a gambrel-style barn that houses a combination of state-of-the-art and heritage tools. The shop is on my sustainable family farm, where we raise heritage livestock on pasture, along with free-ranging hens, organic fruits and vegetables, and native Hawaiian plants.
I am also the founder of Maui Furniture Repair, a service that applies the highest level of craftsman expertise to the restoration and repair of furniture for residents, hotels, commercial buildings, and rental properties. Our goal is a sustainable Hawaii.
Our commitment to artisanal craftsmanship, beauty, tradition, sustainability and the environment resonates in all we do.
My wife and I have two incredible daughters who each got their first 'real' tools at age three and have custom workbenches built by yours truly. They have grown up working alongside me with Japanese handsaws and traditional, hand-wrung drill presses. Rest assured that a Fitch with deep training and a lifelong love of craft will be ready to help you for many years into the future.
Last, but not least, you can often find our shop-dog, Moose, laying at our feet, snoring contentedly while I work deep into the night under the starry Maui sky.
